Soulful Expressions: The Series

Empowering & Educating Against Domestic Violence through Spoken Word



The first  "Soulful Expressions" was held on October 17, 2009. Pictures shown below include only those who were on program. Although this was a fundraiser, due to the nature of Domestic Violence, we wanted to ensure confidentiality and  the audience was not shown.











The next series of "Soulful Expressions" will be held on January 16,2010

Cherie Jones reading statistics of Domestic Violence. 1 in 4 women and 1 in 9 men in United States are victims of Domestic Violence at some point in their lives.Dominique read "Believe" written by Unique Young. Ja'Co miming to "I Need You Now" by Smokie Norful. Serina Cowan's poem of love showed the dynamic aspect of love not only in the physical realm but spiritually as well.Tekila after she led us in prayer, setting the atmosphere for a blessed, educational and empowering night.
Van read "3 Strikes" written by Unique YoungYvonne Deshazior's powerful  poetry "Olivia" and "Daddy In You" made you want to weep for all the women who have been victims of Domestic Violence, including Olivia.Benica Triplet's soulful poems made you want to stand up and scream "Oh yeah, I'm a woman!
